The clay mask might be one that we easily forget to apply in our treatment room, I recently thought when this subject was raised. Clay masks are extremely powerful at absorbing and are rich in minerals. For most skin types, clay masks work well. mostly used on skin types that require oil absorption or purification. Clay masks aid in exfoliation, cell regeneration, and circulation enhancement. Only severely sensitive and sunburned skin types shouldn’t be treated with a clay.
Green clay (Montmorillonite) is the most popular hue of this type of facial clay, while it may also be found in tones of white, pink, blue, and yellow. The earliest mention of this Green clay was made at Montmorillon, France. around 1800. Minerals and volcanic ash make up this substance. This kind of face clay is renowned for cleansing, purifying, and absorbing pollutants and sebum from the skin. At least 57 minerals have been found to be present in montmorillonite. This effective substance gives nutrients back while purifying and cleansing acne-prone or greasy skin types.
Pink clay, also known as rose clay or pink kaolin-illite, is a kind of naturally occurring clay that may be found all over the world. A light clay, pink clay is ideal for average to dry skin types. This kind of clay removes dirt, pollutants, and dead skin cells.
The mildest of all the clays is known as Kaolin Clay (China or White Clay), also known as Kaolnitie. It is even the most delicate skin types can benefit from it. While Kaolin Clay softly exfoliates the skin, it does not remove any oil. Because of this, Kaolin Clay can be applied to dry skin types as well.
Bentonite Clay is made from volcanic ash as well. It resembles Montmorillonite Clay in certain ways. Both montmorillonite and bentonite are sometimes used interchangeably. Bentonite Clay was discovered near Fort Benton, Wyoming, and it is still obtained there. Due of its rich mineral content, bentonite clay is also referred to as the healing clay. Bentonite clay is purifying and cleaning. Excellent for skin types that are combination, oily, or acne-prone.
Clay mask usage guidelines:
You can choose how thick or thin you want a powdered clay mask to be. Tea or water can be mixed into the mask. On the face, apply a thin coating and keep it on for 10 to 15 minutes. A hot towel compress is a popular method used by many estheticians to remove facial clay masks. It helps remove the clay much more quickly and easily while moistening the mask once again. Some estheticians prefer to use it as a spot treatment, such as on the chin or other breakout-prone areas.
